Unmasking The Process Of A Botox Injection

By: Dr Vincent T

Botox as a rule of thumb comes in vials of 100 units each, which could be stored in a refrigarator (2° to 8°) for up to twenty-four months.

Before administering the injection of Botox, your aesthetician will mix the Botox with sterile salt water, resulting in a formulation of four units Botox for every 0.1 mililitres of salt water. It's imperative that your aesthetician double-check the expiration date on the vial, and also that the formulated Botox is clear, odourless, colourless, and does not contain particulate matter before you get the injection of Botox.

Once opened and formed, the Botox should be kept in a refrigerator (2° to 8°), and administered within four hours. Any remaining solution should be disposed and NOT used on others.

To start the injection of Botox, the aesthetician will use a sterile syringe to extract no less than 0.5 mililitres of the correctly formulated toxin, and remove any air bubbles trapped in the barrel. The used needle is then disposed and a brand new one attached to administer the injection of Botox.

Your aesthetician shall then ask you to make several facial expressions like raising your eyebrows, frowning and smiling. Via these expressions the activity of the facial muscles can be observed to decide on the necessary dosage and the injection points.

To minimise the possibility of ptosis, your aesthetician must make sure that the dosage that is is correct and. The toxin should not be injected closer than one centimetre above the central eyebrow, or near the upper eyelid muscle.

The entire routine takes between ten and 30 minutes. The Botox injection will start to take effect after one or two days, hitting maximal effect after one week. The result will persist between three to six months before another session is needed.
